Cardboardia is a state without territory, founded in 2007 and aimed at creating a community with a sustainable economy without territory and without natural resources. Cardboardia brings together creative people from around the world — artists, engineers, artists, producers, filmmakers, and other professions. All together they implement both the most incredible and quite realistic ideas. Cardboardia organizes public spaces and creative economy projects.

Cardboardia has no land, which means it has no natural resources, the main source of other countries' prosperity. The goal of Cardboardia 's experiment is to create a precedent where the economy of an international multinational community is built around a non-fossil natural resource: creative energy. Cardboardia looks for opportunities to digging this resource not in the natural environment, but in human nature itself.
All projects — workshops, carnivals, performances, parades — are interactive, inviting the audience to participate in all stages from preparation to realization.

Street performance laboratories, street and site-specific performances, exhibitions, parades and carnivals. Cardboardia celebrates its own national holidays and participates in festivals around the world. Cardboardia has realized several hundred different projects in Latvia, Slovakia, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Denmark, Great Britain, Korea, Germany, and Taiwan.

It is very important to indicate the goals and objectives of the specific Cardboardia materialisztion for all organizers and initiators of the project in advance. The preparation period lasts from 3 to 12 months and consists of several stages with the mandatory local creative community inclusion:

  • to form a Cardboardia team, to connect project curators;
  • to search for participants who are ready to implement their ideas and projects in a Cardboard Town;
  • to create an architectural plan and Cardboard Town events schedule;
  • to attract wider audience attention to the project, providing a tourist flow.

  • The site
Usually the Cardboard Town territory is from 600 to several thousand square meters. The main platform should be closed or covered by tent to protect cardboard from rain and wind. As a rule we also are in charge of the adjacent open territory, where we organize holidays and hold competitions. Up to 20 thousand people can visit a Cardboard Town during the day.
